The single most effective way to increase referrals is to provide timely consultations that meet the needs of your referring clinicians, patients and families. Consultation etiquette refers to the rules, largely unwritten, that all consultants must know to be effective.
This course will help you learn the common elements of consultation etiquette.
You will gain a clear understanding of:
- Key stakeholders for effective consultations
- Similarities and differences in palliative care consultations
- Rules of consultation etiquette
- Patient advocacy vs. respectful clinician
Although not required, CAPC recommends that participants take all of the courses within the e-learning category of Marketing and Patient Referrals.
This activity has been approved for 2 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM.
CE credits for nurses and social workers will be provided.
Participants must complete all of the following online components to receive credit: enroll; required reading; pre-test; lesson with interactive weblinks; data collection exercises; worksheets; post-test and course evaluation. Additional resources and references will also be provided to enhance participant learning.
This course is $35 per student.
Physicians, nurses, social workers, hospital administrators, chaplains and others within leadership positions and those interested in starting or expanding a palliative care program.
After completing this educational activity, participants will be able to:
- Review ten steps of effective palliative care consultations.
- Describe three ways to enhance adherence to consultation recommendations.
- Discuss three options for resolving referring clinician–consultant conflict.
